well, too bad you were not around, when I had to exchange the zx500 twice, and just put up with new Model, Int play dvd, and Microp freezing up, high pitch noise, even after installing Noise coil. Sorry to offend you as I went through the constant grief of trying to get a good unit. Do you think the new Unit is worth 600-700, be honest, and it is a shame, the people out of warranty, could not get one of these (better) units to begin with. I am talking as a customer now, not a tech.

You did NOT offend me and I am SORRY you had to endure that. I just like to jump in as I can to help or defend as necessary. If you look at the posts over the last two years, you will see how I have tried.

Last year we had a very cost effective trade in program and it was so successful that we sold out of the ZX700. Now our ZX800s are so popular we have been basically unable to keep them in stock. So while that makes availability difficult, it also helps sustain the price.

That said, send me your phone number (to my email below) so I can call you to discuss tomorrow.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, "worth" is not driven by production costs but by market support.

If they are selling out of current stocks, I wouldn't expect a price reduction any time soon. I would expect quite the contrary.

I dont know where people are getting the money these days, but it seems they're sure willing to spend it...

Picked up an LG home unit for $125. No 12v but works like a charm on 120.
Could not justify 700-900$ for another unproven unit

It actually has pretty good bass that way.
My Jensen is working OK but some things to consider.
I have a very small (think fat credit card size) remote. Tiny buttons
impossible to use by "feel" in the dark. I must put on glasses and turn
on a light to use the remote.
I bought a universal teachable remote to help but haven't taken the time
to program it. (I'm waiting for a rainy day stuck in the trailer to do that.)

My Jensen has a remote IR jack but didn't come with the remote IR eye.
Mine has no weather bands. (Bought a portable weather radio but still
miss it on the Jensen.)
I had to slightly modify the size of the hole in my cabinet to make it fit
the Concertone cut out.

Alas, all this happened before Bob Fields arrived.

The prices of those new units "plumb scares me half to death!"
Wow, this RVing is like boating. Dig a hole and toss in money!

I hear you! Very expensive!, I represent Samsung Panasonic, and other companies, for LCD/Plasma warranty work, and when an lcd panel goes out, a defect/even if it 3 years old, they usually, do a full no out of pocket repair, or an exchange, at a very reduced price, I am glad Bob fields is around too.

Before I would spend $800 bucks for an RV ready sound system I'd buy
a middle priced car stereo DVD player with remote and go that way.
Those now can play CDs DVDs and mp3 files. They have built in hard drives
to hold your music files.
Add a couple speaker switches from Radio Shack and you've got sound
and movies all you want and it's still 12v of course. All for half the money.

Why yes, sir I AM a cheap skate! Proud of it in fact!
