Outside FM antenna wiring Q

When I removed the automobile radio from the right side cubbie near the TV I discovered that there was a 12V (red) wire going out towards the antenna along with the antenna lead-in Coax. Anyone know what this is (was) for? Is the small outside antenna amplified? I want to use this antenna for another purpose but if it's got an inline device I may have to bypass it. Thanks!
