Outside solar panel connection?

I have a new Freelander MH that has a connector on the outside for a solar panel to charge the batteries. Has anyone plugged a solar panel in using this connection? Is there a charge controller built in or do I need to use one with the solar panel.

Its either Zamp or Furrion. I have a 45watt Zamp portable solar that I use a Zamp to Furrion adapter. Its really not much more than a battery tender. Ive used it a few times and it works ok. Not enough power to do much though. I was going to buy the Furrion 95watt but someone gave me this Zamp.

Thanks

I see from the Furrion web site that the connection port is just a fused connection to the batteries. The charge controller is part of the Furrion panel. I will check out the zamp.
