Oven Door Won't Close

We just bought a "new to us" TT. We are trying to get it ready to go out in a couple weeks. The oven door won't stay closed. I have read about others having this problem, but no one gives their solution. We would really appreciate any assistance.

If it's like a residential stove there are springs in there to assist the closure...one may have fallen off. Should be able to see in there. Open door a couple inches and pull up. Door should come off. If the spring is missing that tab will be loose...assuming it's like others.

Ok, we took the door off and the springs seemed fine. Just won't completely shut.

Taking it off didn't do anything. My husband read somewhere that a person used some heavy duty magnets. We may have to try that.

Im betting one or both of the springs are weak or the ends are broken off and it isn't functioning. If it were me Id begin by replacing BOTH of the springs.

Someone probably put too much weight on the oven door when it was open - like leaning on it while trying to light the pilot light. The springs on either side are sprung. Go to the stove mfg. web site. and order two new springs. Its no big deal, other than the failure of teh stove manufacturers to put a spark igniter on the oven burner

My door did the same thing. Too much weight on the open door. I ordered new door springs and it fixed the problem.

Had same problem. We had leaned on the very fragile door so had to remove and straighten. Then I bought some small round flats with hole in center magnets from Lowes. I then drilled the hole to countersink for a flat head screw. Installed one on each corner on the face of the oven. Better than new now.

We had the same problem with the oven door not closing properly. Excess weight on open door caused the brackets to bend (mutter mutter razzle frazzle etc).

Instead of replacing the oven, I used 2 small unobtrusive brass latches purchased from a hardware store, to hold the door closed when in use.

Pic 1 shows how the door doesn't close properly with the bent door brackets. Note the small brass latch mounted on the left side of the oven door. I mounted one on the right side of the oven door as well (not pictured).

Pic 2 shows how I securely and firmly latch the oven door when in use. Cost was about $2 from Home Depot, and the oven door seals tighter that when originally installed. A secondary feature is that since we store cookie trays , cutting boards, etc in the oven while traveling, these brass latches ensures that the door stays closed.

Nope. Inside the oven door there is some insulation. Also these latches are on the outside edge of the oven door seal so there is no heat transfer. The brackets stay the same temperature as the external side of the oven door when in use - basically room temperature.
