Poor radio reception

Ive got poor to no reception on the radio. I pulled the radio out and the antenna is connected. Would it have anything to do with the fact that the antenna has no ground plate to sit on? Its just stuck out of the roof.

Well you could rule out a bad antenna or coax leading from the radio to the antenna, by buying another antenna and plugging it into the back of the radio and see if you have any better reception.....
This shouldn't cost too much at all....

RF chokes might help and they are very inexpensive. You can get them at Radio Shack. I bought a handful and put two on each end of every run of coax that I could reach, including the cables exposed on the roof. For outside use you will want to wrap the chokes tightly with weatherproof electrical tape.
