If I have the HW50C installed can I use a simple adapter to connect to 30 Amp service? I find posts saying yes it works fine (of course delivering 30 Amp service) and other posts including my dealer saying it won't allow 30 Amp service. This has me leaning towards the PT50C (and potentially a PT30C as well - OUCH!)

Woks fine on 30A service. 2 trips ago I was having the unit cut in and out every few minutes. Line 2 voltage kept going low. Pulled out the 50 to 30 adapter and plugged into the 30A outlet on the pole for the night. No issues, didn't need the second a/c anyway that night. I also have a 50 to 20 pigtail that I now use at home to get the fridge going rather than drag the 50A cord out. Progressive HW50 doesn't care.
