Propane electric fridge

I leave my Wildwood trailer in a park year round. I am always connected to hydro. The fridge works great on hydro. It also works well on propane. However when the power goes out the fridge will not switch over to propane. I loose everything in the freezer. What should I look for to fix this problem.
Thanks
Dave

I would guess it's a sensor on a board that would detect the liss, then activate the auto switchover switch. It's probably in the main switch on the front of the fridge. If it works in both positions when you manually change it there would seem to be a disconnect in there that's preventing the switchover. I'd replace that switch.

Check the burner tube for spider webs and Mud Wasps/Dauber nests.

That's a good idea too. Since the camper sits for an extended time the odds of needing frequent changeovers is probably not likely. There maybe a line block preventing sufficient propane. However, this would not explain it being ok if you switch the source manually.

Make sure the battery is good and above 12 volts when there is no electricity......

Battery

Hello

Do you need a battery if you are always connected to hydro?

My understanding is the furnace runs off of your battery. If you are plugged into shore power, you shore power will be charging your battery and keep it topped off while the battery is running your furnace.

Hope I got that right!

Edit: Furnace or Fridge...

Never tried to run without battery, but cause it will run on 12 volts, then it needs 12 volts to run when 120 volts quit......12 volts to fire up circuit board

Yes, if you are expecting the refrigerator to auto switch to propane when the shore power (hydro) goes out then you need the battery to continue to supply the 12v to the system and for the switch-over and lighting of propane to happen.

No battery needed when hydro is working, but when you loose hydro and don't have a battery your fridge will not work on propane.....

Again, all those things will work when hooked to shore power (hydro) as your on-board converter supplies the necessary 12v to those items when connected.

However, you asked in your original post why you lose stuff in the refrigerator/freezer when the power (hydro) goes out... without a battery(ies), there is no 12v available for those items to be able to continue to operate.

That would be true if your power never shut off as 5picker pointed out
