question regarding speaker hookups

Bob, I know alot of trailers are equipped with a 5.1 speaker system in them but is there really 5.1? I have never heard anything come out of the center speaker or from the sub woofer. was just wondering if this was an aesthetic thing or if the concert tone units do have a center channel.

I have the ZX690 head unit and the w22 surface mount speakers and the sub in the ceiling. My unit is a 392 flfb salem villa estate.

I know the 2 outside speakers work!

Our ZX700 does a good job of surround and you can sure hear the sub. There are cleaning disks out there that have sound patterns on them that go around all the speakers. That would work to determine if they all work.

I do not have a Concertone but i do have a Bose 5.1. One thing to check first, make sure that the connections for the speakers are correct, they must be postive to positive otherwise the sub will not work correctly. Now this can cause a problem with the center speaker, if the rear speakers are set too high for sound it will it will over power the center channel, you would need to lower the sound by turning them down. As suggested you do need a test disc to balance the sound.....Just something to check, they do wire things wrong some times.

So as you see from others, yes you should get 5.1.

At this point, hold the function key until the unit shuts off (this resets the factory default settings) and then see if there is any change in your speaker output again.

Has this always been an issue? If so, I agree with you needing to dounble check all your installation wiring wiring to make sure the speakers go to the right place and they they are properly "in phase". + to + and - to -

well the sub works now that i did the reset but no center channel or rear speakers. I think the rears are wired as the "right" side speakers to.

guess i pull the head unit out and check out behind it.

Okay, so now i played the sound testers and played with the settings. I do have LEFT AND RIGHT channels. what i do not have is REAR channels! the wiring is silly for the setup in this trailer. its like you are sitting sideways in a theater i guess!

So no center, no rear left+right.

also found this nifty diagram on top of the unit.

So after all that, it seems like you need to rewire for your configuration - is that right?

It appears that everything is wired correctly. Also appears the rear and center channels do not work. I looked in the menus on screen and on the head unit for front/back settings and i cannot find any. I only find left right settings.

See page 14 of the manual.

Is your speaker setup correctly?

I know I bounce in and out sometimes and I hope you forgive me.

If you reset the unit to the factory defaults, the surround sound should certainly play.

That said, have you test the rear speakers to ensure they are actually working and that they are connected where they are supposed to be?

Come to Elkhart and I will test it! :-)

LOL bit of a drive there bob! but yes i have verified the wires are hooked up correctly. I have done the factory reset a few times. both by holding the button on the front and by selecting the 'reset' option in the concertone menu that displays on the TV.

Did you use a meter and verify that the wires to the rear speakers are indeed good and actually go where they are supposed to?
