On our new 12 Flagstaff 8528RKWS I had to get a ladder and pry it open. Never closed it and have towed over 4,000 miles with no problem.

At least you noticed that it needed to be opened. Many of us hadn't! You might post a picture so we know for sure what yours looks like. There are probably two little tabs on the bottom. You need to pry those up (takes a LOT of force) and then it will open. The usual advice is to close before travel.

OC's Range hood vent-------------------

Now I know why Ole Coot does not close his range hood door! If I was standing in the hole he stands in, I would never close mine either.

Agree, but I'm not going to get a ladder out every time to open it and then close it and it does no harm to leave it open.

I use my awning hook to flip the tabs, no ladder needed, I also close for travel just to keep the dust out

Wink

I fixed all that by buying a camper that doesn't have an external vent. Now I can just stew in my own food odors which the DW think is better than the other odors I produce

My Hengs Flapper fell off. Looking at my part's catalog, a replacement is about $10. I just noticed it yesterday, so off to the RV shop tomorrow.

Vertically challenged is right, but I haven't folded the handrail over into the awning arm.
Plus, I don't bump my head on things like you do.
