Refrigerator fan running when turned off

I have a 2011 Rockwood Roos 21RS with the Dometic electric/gas refrigerator. I’ve just noticed that the fan is running for the refrigerator when plugged in to shore power even though the controls are switched off for the unit. The gas is also turned off. The fridge isn’t cold on the outside , but it concerns me because the fan is running.

Is this normal ? What could be the issue ?

Thanks

2011... have you had it since new?
Maybe someone added the fan?
Factory fans are typically connected to a heat sensor.

I do NOT know of a dometic with a fan built in for cooling. What I think is that someone or you installed a computer fan or something and got the fan connection ran to a hot lead when plugged in. Pull the access panel off and take a look at how it wired.

Are you sure it is the fridge fan and not the fan in the converter?

My dometic does the same thing.

Frustrating when it is really hot out, we return from a trip, park the trailer in the storage lot, want to shut the 12 V off but the fan continues to run.

I figure it is trying to cool off so I just let it run then check on it after an hour and it’s shut off by then. Then I can kill the 12v.

I assume the electronics are not that smart to know if the unit is switched on. It only knows if it is too hot then fan runs. I hate that fan concept...just sayin.

I don’t see anything wired up that looks like an additional fan.

It seems to run whether plugged in or on 12v battery power.

Btw, I did but it used back in the Fall. But this is the first I’ve noticed that it runs all the time.

It’s definitely coming from the fridge.

Well chaps indicated that it is a 12v fan suppied by Dometic, first im shocked to hear it comes with one. So back to your problem, if it works off of a heat sensor then either it will stay on until there set temp or you have a bad sensor if it never shuts off. I'm still trying to get my head around that Dometic did this. You said it's a 2011 model, wounder why they discontinued this?

What is the model number of the fridge? The fan may have been added by a previous owner.

Is your ‘fridge in the slide out? If so, fan is there because it cannot be vented to outside like a traditional RV ‘fridge. We had Roo without ‘fridge in slide, then bought newer Shamrock with ‘fridge in slide. That fan drove me and DH nuts!!! We’ll never have unit with ‘fridge in slide again!!! Power sucker!!

No, it isn’t in the slide out.

You cannot see a fan when you pull the access panel but you know it is coming from the fridge. Could the fan be mounted up in the chimney where it is hard to see up there.

The problems seems to have corrected itself. I ran the fridge overnight on LP and it was cold the next morning. The fan was not continuously running and when I turned it off , it shut off completely. It now no longer runs constantly on electric or 12v battery.

Well I still think there is a 110v fan in the back, so when it runs on 110v it comes on, to see if thats it run it on 110v and see if it comes back on....
