Refrigerator mode

2005 Lexington Motorhome. I have to admit that I am still confused about my refrigerator. I understand that while I am hooked up to electric I have it set in Auto Mode and if we were to loose power it would automatically switch to the LP gas tank. My confusion is when we are actually traveling, do I leave it set in Auto mode? Will it continue to cool drawing off of the battery?

May be academic but also, if you have a battery disconnect the batteries must not be disconnected.
