Refrigerator problem
Plugged in the camper in the drive way before taking off tomorrow. Refergator will run off propane but will not cool on Electric.
I pulled the outside back panel off and looked for that little reset button. pushed it in and still only seems to be cooling off from propane.
It's always kicked on quick and started cooling. It has been about 2 months since our last trip. Everything else seems to be working fine. Fuse is also good. It's also close to level.
Any ideas?

It could be that the 110v heating element has gone bad and needs replacement. Had one go out on my old trailer got it replaced and worked good until I got my new trailer.

Something else strange. Freezer seems to be cooling but not the bottom unit.
I have the plastic slide pushed all the way up to the coldest setting in the lower unit.

110 element easy to change yourself? Something I'll have order or most places carry it stock?

That is normal on start up. The freezer gets cold long before the fridge compartment. How long did you leave it on before you thought it was not working? It takes several hours before the fridge will cool down. Leave it plugged in overnight and then check it.

Good idea, wait till morning.
Also RV refrigerators don't like being filled to the brim either. Even though we have a residential fridge in ours now we still keep an outdoor remote thermometer in it to check the temperature without having to open it, it's just an old habit.

I don't know if this is my imagination or what, but I always freeze a few water bottles, place them in the fridge when I turn it on, and it seems to make the fridge cooler quicker.

I start mine a day or two ahead of time just to make sure it is cold.
I am in and out while loading it up so it is easy to keep an eye on it.
Drive safe.

Before anyone changes the heating element or turns their fridge upside down (why?), you should check the internal fuses (there are two - one for the AC heater and one for the DC control circuits).
I can't think of a single malfunction that will be solved by turning the fridge upside down.

Clean the dust out from around it and how to unhook it? Other than that, just something to do if you're bored I guess.

Patience, Grasshopper!
electric always takes longer to cool than the propane side. and you need to not worry unless you've left it on overnite and it's still not cool.

Herk, is there a trick to getting that cover off. What does the spatula design on the cover actually mean. I looked at mine, just to be up to speed, and it didn't look easy to remove the cover. Any help would be appreciated.

I thought "spatula" first also. Its a screw driver. Put a flat screw driver in the slot and pull it one way to release the catch. Bothe sides.I just did it this morning.

This might be where the idea of turning the frig upside down came from...if the refrigerator has been working, and it suddenly stop cooling, turn it off for one to two hours, re-level the RV, and turn it back on. Sometimes the flow of ammonia can become "vapor locked", and turning it off will allow the pressures to equalize (the old method was called "burping", and consisted of taking the refrigerator out of the coach and turning it upside down.. newer models- built since the early 1980's, do not need this, nor will it help).

Agree with Youroo in post #9 best money spent along with the condenser fans. The inside fan will also do away with most of the condensate dripping from the coils.
