Rockwood 2604 speaker

While doing some tv cable work I found an additional speaker behind the fake doors at floor level below the TV. It looks like a base box speaker. Has anyone redone the door into a speaker grill setup to get better performance from this speaker, and possible ride the audio system of its tinny sound, the system seems to lack base, maybe because the speaker is behind a door???

On my sabre there a sub under the upstairs steps.
Some have cut a hole in-between the stair treads and put a heat register grill in.

Yes, if you open this up by putting in a grill you will have much better bass!
