Satellite Receiver Installation
Just wondering where and how everyone mounts their satellite receiver. Most entertainment units are not large enough to allow you to put it flat on a shelf.

I got a dish network uhf receiver, it works on radio signal so the remote does not need to "see" the receiver to change channels or what not.
So it allows me to mount the receiver in the basement of the 5er out of site.

BD,
Wire from satellite goes to sat in connection on camper.
From the back side of that connection is a short wire to reciever.
Reciever then hooks to wire going up to ent center.

As far as I know, our Canadian satellite TV providers don't offer uhf receivers, just IR. My Bell TV receiver is the same as the DISH Solo ViP211k receiver, so I need to locate it in or near the entertainment unit.

Harmony makes some nice remotes that are UHF but have "IR Blasters" to let IR receivers get there commands.

Does anybody have pics of how they've setup their receiver? I can't justify spending well over $100 on a new receiver or a remote control.

Itat, I think maybe you should ask this question in the Rockwood-specific area since you're really asking what other Rockwood owners have done with their receivers.
(BTW, what type of dish do you have outside?)

Actually, my question stems from a possible move from our current hybrid to a TT. We have a decent place to put the receiver in our Roo.
The vast majority of TTs we've considered have the typical entertainment centre at the foot of the bed at the front of the trailer, but that cabinet doesn't seem to be deep enough to place the receiver flat, so I'm just wondering where people with a sat receiver place it in that type of setup. That layout isn't specific to Rockwoods.

This is how mine looks in the cabinet. Also in the picture is the UHF add on so I don't have to see the receiver. I paid $30 on line a few years ago for it. Very easy, just install the UHF transmitter in the battery's of the remote control and UHF base in front of the receiver. Changing channels is instant as soon as the buttons are pushed.

CRZ, question how did you route the cables to the lower cabinet? Mine does not have a cable drop so I will be drilling one. I would like to see some pictures of your setup with a little more detail. If you have them.

IR Infrared Remote Extender
I purchased an "IR Infrared Remote Extender" from ebay for less than $5. My Shawdirect receiver is located out of sight below the TV. Work great.
Basically you attach the IR to the receiver at one end and place the other end somewhere visible to point your remote at.

I do not have any other pictures, and the trailer is in storage till the spring.
Basically the back of the unit is a panel that's hollow behind it, well it was on mine. I have my AC plug at the top and I just ran some 14/2 house wire to a plug at bottom for the receiver power. For the sat cable I had enough in the wall to reach the bottom beside the receiver. I bought a double cable wall plate and and used it for sat cable in and from the receiver to plate I ran a cable out. I know it doesn't make much sense reading it and a picture would be way better. So beside the receiver I added a AC plug for power, and a double cable wall plate for video in and out. All the cables were ran behind the paneling. I did it like that to make it a clean install. I found a picture with everything being ran, but you can see how the unit looks.
