Should I Run !!!

Talkiing to my dealer about a used 2010 25RS Puma. It has speakers installed but no stereo...Told him I did not want a Concertone...he says well, thats what was quoted and after researching his records only found ONE issue with a Concertone...I have felt very comfortabel and trusting up to now...What would you do ?? Could this be possible ??

you are going to get mixed reviews on this one - what model is he trying to give you and will they be installing it or giving you the radio to install yourself?

I have a ZX75 in my TT and I have to say it does what suits my needs - your needs maybe diffrent

One thing to keep in mind is the factory only warrantied the original purchaser - so doubt you will have factory warranty with this unit unless you get an aftermarket warranty
maybe a good idea to see what the cost diffrence in a new trailer versus used is IMO.

When we brought our new trailer home a year ago, I replaced the C-Tone without ever contacting the dealer. It buzzed, hissed, and was distorting the music output due to being underpowered.

After having read the numerous stories on the C-Tone, I just didn't want to drive back and forth from where we bought it. Just ordered a Jenson on-line and never looked back.

Probably, many others are not willing to say anything because its not worth the hassle.

There is a subforum for Concertone under General Tech and Repair because there have been so many problems, last year it seemed to be about 40% of all the problems encountered and about 90+% of all audio/television problems.

I don't have either a television or a concertone, just a CD/Stereo that we rarely use, the radio is generic as can be but works.... my concensus is stay away from concertone

the sad part is that from alot of the posts that say stay away from concertone - It had nothing to do with the unit itself - it was the way it was wired from the factory with a for instance of just video and no audio to the TV so you had to play the DVD audio out of the concertone and not out the tv.

I am not saying that concertone didnt have any issue's cause some did - but what manufacture doesnt have issues

We have concertone in our unit. We are full timers and have not had a problem with concertone. With all of the TT sold that have concertone in them I would bet that the majority do not have a problem. You only hear of the bad not the good. I am not saying that concertone does not have a quality problem but they are trying to fix the issues. We had a problem with our bath sink taps leaking. Does this mean that all taps in the TT are junk and should be replaced as soon as you purchase the unit. It that is the case maybe the TT companies should just build a shell and have the people buying their product finish the inside themselves. People try to get the best price the can for a product that they are buying. If the TT companies did like home builders do. Upgrade apppliances plumbing fixtures ect. Then you could pick an upgrade at a upgrade charge. Your $25,000 TT might cost $30,000 for upgraded features.

Concertone

Caper, I respect your opinion...My dealer wants $300.00 to install this unit if I GOOGLE, go on RV.NET, or look on this forum I simply see more problems than happy campers with the Concertone...I have been in sales all my life, retail, and wholesale...I have found for the most part on a product "where there is smoke, there is fire"..I do not mean any disrespect to you and support your right to your opinion...I am getting ready to pay $14K + drive out for this coach and a little nervous when my sales guy tells me he has not had problems with something a simple internet search say otherwisw.
thnks, wolfie

no disrespect to you wolfie either but you asked for opinions and he gave you his.
I hate to say it but you probably should be asking the service guy not a sales guy cause they will tell you what you want to hear not what they should be telling you.

I bet if you look at the Model that seem to have the most issue I would have to say is the ZX700 / ZX690 or atleast seems to me that model from what I have read.

Here is my opnion to you - if you have done searches and dont like what you see then my thought's would be to tell the dealer no thanks on the ZX75 and you will install your own (unless you are not capable or have the knowledge to install it) and would like the $300 taken off the sale price. I would have to guess if it has speakers installed then there is probably wiring for the rest of the radio there as well.
Yes there are much better units out there but you will probably be stuck paying alot more.

I have a ZX-700/690 and it works very well. Seems most of these issues are installation problems (not all; just most).

Not to slam FR, but if you remember the TV show "Cheers" the character "Woody" built RVs for a living. I am thinking complicated surround sound home theaters are not their "bread and butter".

A big Ditto to this.

Our ZX700 is just fine, replaced it for the jumping video and that was not the cause of the issue. Are there better units out there? Sure but they work well for the intended use IMO, If I want home theatre I stay home and watch my home theatre.

i thought he was a bartender
we have had no issues with our concertone system. I would be more concerned about the warranty he is going to sell you, look for other threads about that subject

I've had no issues so far with my ZX-700 either. (Knock on wood. )

My rig stays parked most of the time way up in the mountains so I added a power booster to the radio input (like the power input for the TV antenna that comes in almost all TTs now) and a handful of RF chokes everywhere I could think to put one. That did clear up some very minor hissing and helped reception some, but this unit is not going to get the reception we've all come to expect from our car/truck radio systems. The Concertone receiver just isn't of the same quality.

Personally, my only complaint is that the Concertone doesn't have any HDMI or fiber optic inputs or outputs. I read that they are working on adding those but for now my DVDs do not get HD, though the sound is pretty decent for a trailer. But we're supposed to be camping so what are we all complaining about!

As to the OP above...I'd say if you have any doubts about the Concertone and your audio system is important to you then get a credit for the unit and buy something that meets your needs.

And as for the salesman who might have told you a fib: I'm shocked I tell you! Shocked!

On the subject of HDMI. Consider the following:

The connector itself is rather flimsy and I know it would not tolerate highway speed and potholes very well. RCA jacks are better suited, so I would recommend Component video as the next step up.

I haven't heard people complaining about that model.
It was the 600 series that was so poor. (I'm being kind here)

I wouldn't let that stop me from buying the rig if I liked it.
You can always replace the CT if it does not suit you.
