Smelly freezer

Lost power with food in freezer and refrigerator luckily not a big clean up mess But we have a smell problem, we cleaned with disinfectant wipes Several times then left newspapers and baking soda in freezer for a week tired a week door closed and a week door open.. Even tired putting charcoal in there . Made a paste of baking soda and cleaned entire unit. The refrigerator section itself isnít too bad but we canít get the smell out of the freezer it is really still rough We turned unit back on to see if any difference. Anybody have other suggestions ?

You might try using a mild bleach solution. Wipe down the sides with a wet sponge, leave wet and then CLOSE the freezer door for about a half hour. Then rinse with clean water and let the compartment dry out completely with the door open.

Vinegar will make it smell worse, lol! You may need to repeat the bleach sequence a couple of times. Man, you must have had some nasty stuff in there!

What kind of charcoal?
Only 'activated' charcoal (carbon) will work to remove tough odors.

It is likely that some of the thawed/melted liquid made its way into the cracks where the sides/back meet. You might make a mixture of Odoban and water and dribbling it along the cracks then closing it up. Odoban can be purchased at most big box stores.
