Storage in an oven
I have a new Rockwood 2306 and my dealer gave me a maintenance guide which says not to store anything in the oven. Anyone know why? We were going to store our pots and pans in there.

The banging around as you go down the road can result in chipping the enamel oven interior. That being said we use the oven to store our baking sheets and cooking racks but we wrap them in a large towel to pad them.

I never use the oven to bake anything in my RV, so it is where my large frying pans reside!

We keep our bread, rolls, etc. in the oven. Don't bake them there, just a big breadbox.

we don't carry propane, so the best use DW has for the oven is as a dish cabinet

Hi,
I confess I have been carrying a large and small cast iron skillet, nested, in my trailer oven for many years and tens of thousands of miles, in various rigs. They sit on top four 6" unglazed tiles that are in there for heat dispersion.
Could be these old eyes, but if it has damaged any of those ovens in any way, I have never noticed it. And no tile breakage has ever occurred either.
But it could be an issue, I concede, for rigs where the oven is at or near the back, where tail end "flip" would be more of a factor.
FWIW.

I store our pots and pans in the oven. I line the racks with the thick rubber shelf liners. I also use the liner between the stacked pots and pans.

While shopping for our trailer, one salesman pulled open the oven and said "and here is the built in bread box"...

We use ours for storing pillows. Keeps the oven racks from rattling around in there and driving me nuts.

Since we also have a convection oven, the wife has always used the oven as a bread box.

Good info, thanks. It won't get smashed in there.

Our oven hasn't worked well since we got it. 3 trips for repairs and it still doesn't stay lit. I am using it for storage.
So is your convection oven portable or did it replace your microwave.

I store a larger sized cutting board, glass baking dishes and other bakeware/cookware items in the oven as well. I pad/cushion the glass bakeware with the squishy shelf liner stuff and have yet to have anything broken, chipped or anything else that could be considered problematic. Oh, and I've never used the oven in my RV either. I have a toaster oven that I use instead.

because we don't want to, .... DW only cooks with electricity, and we can heat with electricity, ... so there's no reason to carry around the weight of two full 30# propane tanks, plus the regulator and cover, ... without those items, I had a perfect place to build a bike rack for our bikes and get them out of the camper shell, ...
MCTroy, ... we do any oven cooking with the Presto 03430 Pizzazz Plus Rotating Oven, .... I know it doesn't look like an oven, but it sure does cook like one, ... and does a great job of it, ... plus it has a small footprint and stores away easily, ... if we're running the ac, its easy to do the cooking outside to keep the heat out of the trailer, ...

Our unit came with a convection oven where the microwave is above the stove (bread box).
