We've been shopping around (online and in stores) for a suitable stove top cover that will also serve as additional counter space when not actually cooking. We've looked at Polyethylene, and are considering Corian. The problem is the cost!!....Where can one find a reasonable priced 24x24 in Sq by 1/2 inch thick piece of suitable material??
Used a cutting board I had in the house, but sure a new one would've looked better. Used beveled stainless steel machine screws and plastic spacers to level and prevent sliding. Got those from Home Depot from the hardware section
So after much online shopping and price comparison, we decided to use Corian for a stove top. We called one of our local retailers in Vancouver, WA (Solid Solutions) and he sold us a 26"X 32" remnant off his shelf for $40. I had to also get a $20 fine toothed carbide tipped blade to get a fine cut on the Corian and some 1/8" thick crafts foam pads at Joanns. After cutting the piece to our exact specifications, I sanded the edges and corners to a rounded edge and spray glued the foam to the back of the Corian and ....Voila!!! new counter top that matches our original equipment and looks good!!!......the time and work was well worth it, we got what we wanted and are happy with the results.....
