Suburban sw6d won’t stay lit

I have a suburban sw6d water heater. It will light but after a couple seconds will kick out. Try multiple times and same problem. Looked at the control module and everything seems to be good there. What direction should I look next?

Does it re-fire every time for a few seconds, or do you have to do something to get it to restart?

It could be that the igniter needs cleaning and/or adjusting. It's part of the flame sense, so if it doesn't sense a flame it closes the gas valve after a few seconds.

It should have a 1/8" gap and the rod should be clean. Fine emery cloth usually works.

Yes it will refire everytime for a couple seconds. Then after the third time it won’t try to relight. If I turn the switch off then back on it will do the same thing

Yep, clean the flame sensor and try again. If it still won't stay out you probably need a newcomer sensor or control board. Controllers can go bad and appear perfect. No known control board test for consumers at this time

Where is the flame sensor on the water heater?

Flame sensor and the igniter are the same part. Service manual for your SW6D and other models is in the Library section of this forum.
