Suburban SW6DE temp settings

My Suburban SW6DE doesn't seem to heat the water very well. Flame is fine and electric and gas are on. Not sure if the electric is working. How do I check that out and how do I set the temp higher. It shows a drawing of the temp controls but mine does not appear to have that. I have photos I can send but do not know how to post.

Is your bypass valve turned?
Is your shower valve on and water handles turned on in outside shower head?
