x8 Progressive. I have the built in one. Don't have to worry about security. Both types of Progressive units have a delay so if the power is bad it WON"T turn the power on to the camper. Saved me a few times already in 3 seasons of camping.

I am a terrible consumer...

I bought this one, it has done just fine.

They do make a 50 amp.

Ford, Is that padlock and chain part of your setup? Are the portable(s) a theft target then?

The padlock's and chain keep honest people honest.

One padlock locks the chain to the SP the other wraps around the pole to keep it from walking off.

Target?

No idea if anyone has tried to remove it.

I also use a 50 amp power pal to check the pedestal power even before anything else is connected. Has only told me once that it was not ok to connect, bad ground.

There is a difference in a surge protector, and an Electrical Management System. Do a little homework. The differences are great enough to warrant spending more to truly protect your RV.

If I go with a hard-wired one will I still be able to use my generator? I have a 30 amp one on my present trailer but if I plug it into the gen it will not let the power through, I think it has something to do with the floating neutral.

DDC What type 30 Amp protector do you currently have now and are you interested in selling the 30Amp. when I downsized units I let the 50Amp protector go with the unit. Message me if interested. Ted

I believe you are correct. The one time I used a generator with my camper I had to tie ground to neutral on the cord I made for the generator. Somewhere on the internet i found this solution.
