Swap Dometic A/C for Coleman

I am very disappointed in the 3 years I got from my Dometic Brisk 15k A/C unit. So much that I have done my homework and to replace all the parts needed to do the Coleman swap will cost me and extra $130 over just purchasing a replacement Brisk II unit.

Brisk II $630 base unit / Coleman Mach $760 with all parts

It's the mechanics of the swap that is unknown. Anyone done this swap on ducted system?

The ceiling assembly and thermostat has to be swapped. That doesn't seem complicated. Anything I might be missing?

Your experience is greatly appreciated.

Super easy! I did it in the spring.

Get the Dometic to Coleman kit. Turn off breaker. Remove the Dometic from the roof. Clean the opening an place the Coleman on the roof. Using the new plate supplied install the bolts thru the plate and bolt the unit down. Using your existing controller box and thermistor probe how the Coleman to the Dometic box with the new harness adapter. Install thermistor probe in evaporator.

This was the hardest part after testing the unit was installing the cover, the screws did not want to thread properly. When done the Coleman will make it windy in the camper.

Dometic to Coleman

Can you supply me with that information. We are on our 4th Dometic in 7 years, two different models of Dometic. Doesn't seem likely that we have gotten 4 different units that are bad but we have. This last one was replaced less than 6 months ago. Dealer thinks even tho our extended contract has run out that Dometic will replace this one, if not we are going to do something different. Do you know if we have two units both are Dometic (I think) that a Coleman and a Dometic can both run on the same thermostat? The one in the front bedroom will frost you but the one in the rear (living room) just wont cool.

I have a ducted system in my Surveyor. The Coleman replaced the original failed Dometic 15K. I am on my 2nd Dometic 13.5K on the front unit, it is also ducted. I have a thermostat for the bedroom (Dometic) and main room. The Coleman uses the same Dometic controller so I don't see where the thermostat will be an issue. (PM Sent)

Swap Dometic A/C for Coleman

Hope this doesn't jinks me, but we are on the original Dometic 15k in our 8 year old surveyor with no problem. We have been using it 15 days a month for the last year with no problems. I was wondering what the expected life is for these units?

Yours is probably fine. The newer ones from at least 2015 and up have been problematic. Dometic makes them to get through 2 years of warranty (some do make it, my 15K did) and then they die.
