Thermostat Recommendations

Hello,
We have an old analog Dometic thermostat as pictured. What digital display thermostat would you recommend as a direct change out?

I don't think there is a 'Direct' replacement for that unit, but there are some very good residential thermostats that will work great in an RV. The only thing they're missing is the 2-speed fan switch.

A lot of people like the Honeywell models. The only thing you need to watch for is that the unit you get is compatible with millivolt systems (Battery Powered).

Why ask for trouble? If that unit is working I would not replace it, it is more reliable than any digital unit you could put in. The old rule "if it's not broken don't fix it" would apply.

I did the Honeywell on my last 5th wheel. The original one worked but the Honeywell was so much nicer. Set it 72 and it comes on at 72. The old Dometic was hard to set...seemd to be somewhere around 5-6 degrees difference.

Thanks for all the replies.

I ended up replacing the Duo-therm with a Honeywell 1-Week Programmable Thermostat (RTH2510B1000).

Bought at Target $15.00

https://www.target.com/p/honeywell-1...t/-/A-15023948

Our Duo-therm thermostat temperature set point was inaccurate.

Old Thermostat Wiring

New Thermostat Wiring:
The red wire was power for the old Duo-therm so its taped off not used.
Blue and brown wires are tied together (Fan and High Fan)
You could add a separate switch if desired if you required separate High and Low speed Fan.

RC - Green
W - White
Y - Yellow
G - Fan Blue & Brown

I tried to look up the RTH 5106 thermostat and can't find anything with that number.

Since it works on 12 volts (I assume you mean battery power), that means that it's not the thermostat.

What exactly does it mean "it does NOT work on shore power"? On 12 volts the only thing that should operate off it is the furnace. On shore power the furnace and A/C should work (if they're both hooked to it).

Unless you're removing the battery(s), the thermostat shouldn't know the difference between battery and shore power. Even if the converter isn't working, the battery would still supply power to the furnace until it's dead.

Bama,
I will check the battery.
12 volt heater work and fan works. Does not heat in 110 volts.

As I said above, when running the furnace, it shouldn't know or care whether you're plugged into shore power or running off the battery as long as the battery is charged.

This is puzzling for sure.

Dometic thermostat

For five years I have complained about my Dometic digital thermostat, then I descovered that by taking the plastic cover off and touching the control pins with my fingers direct, it works perfect. What a simple fix !!!
