Touch Audio VD-300WR Problem

I just took delivery of our 2012 Cherokee 254Q.

The VD-300WR works fine so far.
The problem I am having is that I can't get the outside controller to actually change or do anything. It will display whatever the inside unit is doing, but pressing the buttons do NOTHING.

Basically it is like there is a "Lock" feature so that no one plays with it.
