TV ? Dish, Direct, Tailgater, or Carryout
Ok, let the discussion begin, I've got Dish, their customer support is great but hitting that dot many miles away takes me forever. I'm considering Direct , or a Carryout so I can use 2 receivers. I know the stipulations with Carryout. Tailgater out of question because my wife and I come college football season will need two separate TV's. I just bought a used DISH satellite 1000 with a portable tri pod stand and 200' of cable for $75. I already have the 211k recievers from my 1st camper. Took me about 2 hours to get set up this past weekend my best time so far in a year and a half is about 45 mins. Not a good thing. Somebody give us some good suggestions please. Thanks and have a happy St Patty's Day!!

On the Dish Remote, do you go to the Dish MENU-SYSTEM SETUP--INSTALLATION-POINT DISH for the location you are in? It gives you the specific skew, azimuth and elevation. A signal meter is also a very handy, time saving gadget also. I can set mine up and start watching tv usually within 20 minutes from start to finish. A level is also a must to make sure the pole is vertical. I use a steel tube with 3 adjustable legs on it and set a bubble level on the top of the tube and adjust the individual legs accordingly. If the tube is not vertical, you can fight it for hours as the skew & elevation will just be a 'hit or miss' situation.

I use the Dish 1000 with 1 receiver and a splitter....that way I use 2 tv's with one receiver. I use a tripod and have to little line levels siliconed to the tripod. I make sure it is level and usually have a pretty good idea where I need to point the Dish. If any problems I use an IPhone app. No more than about 3 or so minutes to get my picture.

With that being said I have dish network at home so I take my spare receiver from my shop an a dish that I got for from an installer removing it and mounted it to a work light tripod.
I can setup level and aim dish with my android phone and sat app in minutes.
Total cost .... free.
As I already pay for the service at home.

But you never get over 25 miles from home.
Try setting up all over the country where you have to change azimuth, skew & elevation for every new location.

I've had to redo azimuth and skew plenty my friend.
I change it before I even leave so when I get there.
Setup tripod
Level
Aim
Watch tv
Ps I installed my first satellite dish in 1995-ish.
And my parents had one of those 16' "dishes" back in the 80's

I used to have the same problem. Took me forever. You're missing the essential tool: signal meter. I bought the Triplett version from Amazon.
The problem is that the receiver itself is too slow to respond to a new signal. With that meter, you can do it almost instantly. (I also have the DP AR app for iPhone which gets me started.) I seldom need to change elevation or skew. With the meter, I can usually do that just by changing the level of the tripod legs.

i just put my dish receiver in the TH, plug into the factory entertainment center system, connect my winegard carryout, hit a switch and a couple of buttons, and BAM......tv on demand. <10 mins. .
makes momma happy to watch the Texas Rangers and Fox News when out and about. low maintenance and easy set up! double bonus for me.

16' dish, my parents had it also...how I miss the non-scrambled, free channels available then as a teenager.

Directv
Went to camping world and had them install a covered dish on the roof that works in all kinds of weather and you don't have to go up on the roof with the broom to remove the snow. Were hooked to the the to recievers from the house and still using the progaming from the house. Hated going to campgrounds and hoping their cable systems worked or not.

He doesn't prolly get a good signal parked under tree's.
Good reason not to have it mounted I guess.
