Question TV mounting concern

I'm looking to mount my new TV. The mount I purchased requires a minimum 1/2" backer board for mounting. FR informed me that my backer board is 3/8" OSB. I'm concerned about hanging the TV and mount on OSB, as it seems the vibration would cause the screws to loosen or break apart the particleboard over time, not to mention the backer is 1/8" narrower than suggested.

How should I proceed? Can I just mount plywood between the wall and the mount? Any other ideas?

First off 1/2" versus 3/8" is difference of 1/8" not 1/4". Second look for studs to mount!

Lol, ya you're correct! My mathematics are a little askew today. If the mounting area is just backer board, there wouldn't be studs there, right? The studs would be outside of that area, being too far left or right to mount a TV mount. I'm just guessing. I'm going to check it with a stud finder when I'm able.

You'l be fine with any of the newer lightweight TV's. I had a 32" mounted in the bedroom of our Rockwood for many, many miles and it never budged.

I removed the mount to install in our new camper and the holes were still good. I was very impressed.

One note - don't over tighten. Get them good and snug, but there is no need to hammer down on them.

Can you add extra screws in the backer board? A few extra screws would account for the lack in thickness.

If it were me, I'd mount a backer board over the hidden backerboard. I'm not sure if there is a rational reason, but that would feel more secure to me.

Instead of screws, if I could not mount to a stud, I would use one of the expanding "molly" type fasteners designed for hollow walls that expands behind the board. They are available for various thickness of board. To pull out, they would have to pull completely through the board.
