Tv picture issue

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a TV for my stealth 2916. I'm having issues getting a picture to show. If I plug my TV directly into the head unit, the picture shows up. If I plug it into the jack by where the TV is going to be mounted there is no picture. I even tried plugging directly into the extension where the TV will be mounted(if that makes sense) and still no picture. I think I may have a defective video cable extension. Any ideas on what to try or how to run a new line? Thanks!

Tell us more about your system.
What is the 'head unit'?
What is the 'jack' for... cable? outside antenna? etc.

Every model is different.
Can you post photos?

This is a common problem people have when they are not familiar with RV tv antennas.

Near your tv there should be a panel where you connect the antenna coax. That panel is the power supply/power injector for the amplifier in the antenna head. On that panel there will be a button you have to push. When the button is on there will be a small LED next to it that lights up. When you have that on it will pass the ota (over the air) signal to your tv. With the button off it will pass the campgrounds cable tv signal to your tv.

Once you have the power injector turned on you will have to access the tv's settings and select the ota input, then do a channel scan for available channels.

Your power injector panel will look similar to the pics below.

All true Scrapper.

And to add to the confusion, many newer rigs are coming with the King-Jack roof top antenna so without knowing better information about the OP's particular set-up, we are simply throwing out suggestions.

The power button for the king antenna is on the ceiling control. (where you also adjust the direction) Note: some models do not have the amplifier.

Reading how he has a picture when he is PLUGGED DIRECTLY into the HEAD UNIT makes me thinks he is talking about a built in DVD radio. We had a Furion one in our Rockwood many moons ago and it would not work when plugged into the Red Yellow White cables.. I took the wall plate off and low and behold none of the wires were even plugged in. Fixed that and it still did not work... Took out the radio and the wires were all wrong on the head unit.

Here are the pictures. So when I plug the yellow video cable directly from the head unit to the TV I get a picture. When I connect it to the faceplate with the red, white, and yellow i get no picture. I even tried connecting directly to the yellow cable that was connected to the face plate and still no picture.Click image for larger version

That would certainly point to the black/yellow video cable being bad.

Is there an easy way to run a new one? I'm afraid I already know the answer but just thought I would ask.

If you have a multimeter at hand you can test the cable easily. With both ends disconnected measure resistance between the center pin and the metal sleeve on one end. It should be open, if not there might be a staple or screw going through it somewhere. Next, use something to 'short' the pin and sleeve at one end, it should measure close to no resistance (a few ohms are ok) from the other end. If not, the cable is severed somewhere.

As for pulling a new cable, you need to ask yourself if it's worthwhile. It's a composite signal so you only get 1990s standard def picture anyways. Maybe a cheap and small blueray player next to the TV is a better solution.

It's more for when the kids go to bed at night and I can't run the generator.

It depends. The way our head and tv plate are situated it's pretty easy to run new cables from one place to the other. It's a pretty straight shot form the plate up through the wall to the head unit and the wires aren't stapled.

The first thing I'd do is remove both the head unit and the wall plate and see if I could move the cable back and forth in the wall. If you can then you may be able to tape a new cable to the old cable and pull it through.

I tried pulling the cable to see if you could run a new one that way...it was pretty stiff

That doesn't sound good, unless you can figure out where it's binding in the wall.
May try getting one of those endo-scopes that fit on your phone and see if you can see anything in the 'hole'.

How far is the run?
The binding might be because it's stapled (by mistake) or has a screw through it. Could you use a 'fish wire' to pull a new one through?

It would be pretty difficult I think...its on opposite sides of the trailer. I think I'm just going to have to get a small inverter that plugs into the 12v plug where the TV is and get a blu ray player. Is that even feasible. I'm new to the whole rving thing.

Oh... well.. opposite sides of the trailer, you'll never pull a new one through.

Yes it is feasible to get a small inverter to use in a 12v plug and use it to power the blu ray.

Would it power the blu ray and the TV? What size would I need to do that?

Does the blu ray use DC or AC to run and does the cord come off the back of the blu ray? Maybe you can find a DC cord for the blu ray if the cord is just an AC to DC transformer. 100watts interverter should be more than enough (do not know if I have ever seen a smaller one).

I don't have the blu ray player yet...was hoping to avoid that for a bit but I plan on trying to find one that runs on DC. My TV is DC as well.

Even the ones that plug into AC are often DC with a 'Wall Wart'/'Power Brick' adapter that changes AC to DC.

You'll need to do a little investigating.

Even if you ran it on a small inverter, I can't imagine 100w not being enough.
