Ultraheat

I recently bought a 2007 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite to use year round as a "cabin" on my ranch in Northwest OK. I see it has Ultraheat installed. Am I right in assuming that these models only have the holding tanks heated and that I will need to do something else to protect the pipes?

That is an affirmative, just the tanks have heat pads. Ultraheat does market stuff for pipes also, or you can wrap them with heat tape and insulation yourself.

The Ultraheat heating pads are on the lowest point of the tanks and the discharge valves. You can double check but I don't think you'll much water piping in the un-insulated underbelly of the camper other than the feed from the FW tank.

These campers are really for 3 seasons...how cold does it get where you plan to set it up? Are you planning on having an insulated skirt around the bottom of the camper?

Winters are relatively mild compared to up north. It does get below freezing at times, maybe in the teens overnight but never subzero. And, no I wasn't planing on a skirt.

Do the temperatures normally get well above 32 during the day? If so, I don't think you'll have a problem. I'd be worried about it should the day and nighttime temperatures remain below freezing for days and days.

You may want to re-think about some insulated skirting as the main heat loss will be through the floor and it's a big impact on the cost of heating the camper.

There are only three relatively cold months in this neck of the woods - Dec., Jan. & Feb. The average overnight low during those months is in the mid-20s. Average high temp is in the upper 40s. So, yes, the temp even in the cold months gets well above 32 during the day.

You are right that I may have to rethink the skirt. Fortunately, I'm working with a guy who delivers, sets up and maintains trailers for oil workers to live in out here year around. He knows his stuff and has done a good job on my initial set up. Being new to the TT world, right now I'm just trying to educate myself so he and I can make the right moves come fall.
