Yes, and then punch out the donut hole out leaving splinters around the hole. And it doesn't seem to matter whether you paid twice as much for your unit than others, it's probably ALL shoddy workmanship behind the glitz of the external covering.

Will the Coleman Digital thermostat work with a DuraTherm/Dometic AC with the analog thermostat? Just asking as I did this mod on my Outback but now have a Cedar Creek.

NO it will not, the problem is that Dometic in there great wisdom uses a negative wire for there A/C. It will not work. There is a past thread maybe a year ago with how they wire the stat. I did HVAC for more years that I wish to remember, And I still didn't understand it except for a member who knew they use a negative feed. You would have to buy a dometic digital stat from them and it's not cheap. I hope that helps you... PS: even if you change it make sure you plug that hole the wires come through or you will still be off.....

I thank you all for giving me the reassurance to take on the task

My next question is this:

My tstat has a fan only setting as well as the heat and cool setting on the left just like this picture. Is this tstat still going to work?

I just did this exact swap two weeks ago. I had the exact same Coleman Mach as you and upgraded to the exact same digital Coleman Mach.

I used butt connectors. The new thermostat has wires coming out that need to be connected to the house wiring. The colored wire on the new and old thermostats match... so take a phone pic of the existing wiring connections and wire up the new, connecting the same colored wires as the old thermostat to the house wire colors that the old was was connected to.

I did the same swap this past weekend, was quick and simple, did one wire at a time, also took pick before starting.
I used connectors that were crimped to make the connection.

I did the same swap this summer and like others have said, it was very easy. Just make sure that's the correct model. The seller I bought mine from sent me the wrong one. There's a model that looks identical but has one additional wire. It's made for heat pump systems. Once I got the right one, no problems! It's a great upgrade. My analog t-stat had 3 screws that mounted it to the wall but the digital one only has 2. I'd use good wall anchors rather than leaving the mounting the shoddy way that FR does it.

I have to echo Stormrider151's admonition...when swapping out thermostats be very careful not to let the original wires fall back down into the wall. I'm assuming he & I experienced the same "whoops" moment!
