Water Heater 120 volt Connection Failure

We own a 2014 Catalina Coachmen 263RLS. We picked it up new May 2014. In June we heard popping sounds by the stove and there was burning odor (plastic or rubber). Took the trailer back to the dealer and after running all appliances said they couldn't find anything wrong. We went camping mid July just got set up and heard the popping sound again with the odor of burning plastic/rubber. A mobile RV tech found the problem. The 120 volt connections to the water heater had abraded and were bare causing arcing in the connection box. The tech replaced the crimped connectors that were burned with marrettes and electrical tape.

Emily (and Martin) Welcome to the forum this is a great place to learn all about RV'ing etc. Thank goodness you got the electrical short corrected and avoided a possible fire. Happy Camping, Enjoy.

Thank you. I have added your image to my library.

You were very smart to have pursued the odor and sound.
Not all technicians are equal as you discovered.
A second opinion is never a bad idea.

I have a 8312SS, Family was camping this past week and we had the burnt electrical smell coming from under cabinet were the hot water heater is. I could not locate the source but I can not get to the junction box at this time. Suspect I may have same problem as Emily.
