Water heater door replacment?

Anyone ever replace the door and mounting flange on a Suburban SW6DE?

I had to detour through a town since interstate I-81 traffic got backed up from a bad accident. Ended up bumping the side of the trailer against a telephone pole in a tight right angle turn. Took off the water heater door and bent the mounting flange.

I bought a new door with the mounting flange, some butyl tape, and silicone sealant. Just looking for advice from anyone that has done this before.

Got the new door in last night, pretty straight forward like you said Dave. I have butyl tape under all the edges, and I'll be sealing the inner edge at the bottom for draining this morning.

Here's a picture of what it looked like before:

Just to add,be sure too use sealant between the outer flange and inside housing, bottom and up the sides. This seal is (NEEDED) when you winterize, remove the Anode rod,or release the popoff valve to release air from the Tank! If this area is NOT sealed Water(Will/Can) run Inside your unit! Youroo!!

Yep, I had planned on doing just that this morning. Our dealer even did the same thing when we bought the camper. Thought that was a nice touch on thier part.
