Why does RV Water Heater Anodes deteriorate so fast?

I have a few questions about the water heater anodes.

1. Why does magnesium sacrificial anode in water heater deteriorate so fast? (1year).

2. Why can't we use aluminum anode like in our house water heater?

Do you have the Atwood or the Suburban and why the Mg rod?

From what I've been told, you can use either type anode. The deterioration rate depends strictly on the water to which it is exposed.

i just replaced ours for the first time in 7 years, so i don't have the same issue.
maybe our water is much better than yours.

I bet your water comes from Lake Tahoe? I know it supplys the Bay Area. Best water around IMO.
