Why does RV Water Heater Anodes deteriorate so fast?

I have a few questions about the water heater anodes.

1. Why does magnesium sacrificial anode in water heater deteriorate so fast? (1year).

2. Why can't we use aluminum anode like in our house water heater?

From what I've been told, you can use either type anode. The deterioration rate depends strictly on the water to which it is exposed.

Here is a link which explains anodes. You might want to read the part concerning aluminum anodes (not recommended). Hot water heater anodes and rust protection

I bet your water comes from Lake Tahoe? I know it supplys the Bay Area. Best water around IMO.
