ZX50 Faceplate removal and Hum Troubleshooting
Hi, I'm a new user and a new owner of a used 2010 FR Surveyor. I've noticed a hum coming from my ZX50 and I want to pull it out to check the power connections. I want to ask HOW before I try to pull anything.
I noticed yesterday when I was on DC power only that the hum wasn't as loud. I need to check this when I'm on AC again.
Another problem - this unit has A and B speakers inside, and C speakers outside. When the hum is present, it's present on all speakers. That really makes it unusable as the hum is so loud it would disturb my neighbors.
Once someone can give me guidance on removing the faceplate, I'll clean and tighten the connections, including ground. I have a can of Deoxit cleaner for the connections.

if it is any thing like the ZX75 - look to both sides and you will see two small holes per side - with a small flat head screw driver you litely push in the hole and pull on the side panel towards you and it will pull real easy too.
once you get the two side panels off you will see the (6) six screw holes - probably only using (2) two per side instead of (3) three

The ZX50 must be a little different. There are two panels, one on each side, but no holes.

the holes are small and close to the wood it is mounted against - look from the side and you will see the small holes I am talking about.
I am almost pretty sure the ZX50 is mounted the same way as my ZX75

Finally got the faceplate off about a week ago and checked the connections. Everything appeared to be ok. Today I got the trailer attached to AC and the hum is back. While searching this site, I found several people say the two parts from Radio Shack fix the problem. Snap Choke Core part # 273-0069 & one for the antenna coax called Ferrite Data-Line part # 273-0105. I'll try that soon, but for $6 in parts, Forest River could have solved a lot of radio noise complaints.

Our ZX50 hummed mercilessly no matter what I tried. I replaced it with a Jensen unit made for RVs. Hum is gone and much better clarity.
