Just got back from our trip.
Spent the night Thurs at our seasonal site, and hit the road early Friday morning. First time pulling out since planting camper at the site in April. Disconnecting and pulling out was easy, lining everything back up when we returned was another story, but I'll build in some forgiveness to the pvc sewer line and deck steps for next season.
We had Pine Grove campground virtually to ourselves the whole weekend, had a nice shady site under some tall pines, full hook up. There is a "wildlife refuge" at the campground with ponies, herons, peacocks, ducks, and alpacas, but overall that section of the campground seems to double as a dump, poor animals. Rest of the place is clean and tidy. Weather was warm, in the 80s, and we used the pool, too.
Chincoteague had a very laid back vibe, nothing fancy, lots of scruffy original buildings, just the way we like it. However, we didn't do our homework and didn't realize that there are no pets allowed in the state park, even in the car if you just want to drive through, so we drove all the way up to the other end of the island to Assateague, bout an hour each way, so we could hit the beach for the day with our pooch, then took a ride through the park and met some wild ponies. Weather was awesome for the beach, and we had dinner in Berlin at an outside restaurant.
Sunday, despite the call for cloudy and rainy weather, we left the pooch in the camper, picked up some sandwiches, rented some bikes and rode through the entire Chincoteague park. Weatherman was wrong and the day was sunny and breezy. The scenery in the park is just amazing, with miles and miles of well marked and paved paths, overlooking marshes with all sorts of wildlife. Racked up 12 miles of riding, took a nap on the beach, saw the lighthouse, more wild ponies, and rolled back to the campsite for a dip in the pool, and then dinner with the pooch at another outside waterside restaurant.
Had a full moon, perfect for night caps by the fire.
Packed up this morning, and wrapped up just before it started to rain.
Awesome trip, I'd recommend it.
