We tried booking the koa at bar harbor for the July 4th weekend and it's full, can anyone recommend any other CG's in that area?

do the national park .. its beautiful .. but you maybe too late for a booking .

We stayed at Woodland Park in 2010 and it was pretty nice.

I'm surprised how tough it is finding something. I remember a few yrs back we could call a month or a few weeks out and get something, now, nothing. Has camping gotten that more popular now then in yrs past?

We stayed at Hadley's Point last May when we were up there, it was nice and quiet but some sites could be a little tight.

Smuggler's Den Southwest Harbor, great hiking to fire station, didn't stay at the campground much to much to see, very friendly people, good sites.

we booked Bass Harbor for the July 4th weekend. The KOA was booked and for full hookups. Never been so it hopefully its a good CG

Try Bar Harbor Campground. It is on Mount Desert Island, about 4 miles from the center of town, Bar Harbor. This is a family run CG that consistently gets great reviews on campgroundreviews.com. Check it out, their phone is 207.288.5188. Last I was aware, they do not take reservations so its first come first serve. However, it is a large CG with 300 sites and they are very reasonably priced compared to corporate parks such as Mount Desert Isle (avoid) or the generally well reviewed KOA's. I've been to Bar Harbor twice and on my third visit this would be my first choice. Also highly rated is Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park just off Mount Desert in Ellsworth which is the largest town around Acadia National Park. Very nice too. Good Luck.
