Anyone know how the basic waterfront sites are Narrows Too campground? Google maps makes it look like those sites are on top of each other. I thought their prices were reasonable, $68 for basic waterfront.

Most water front sites are non awning sites. This is what we were told by the people at the desk.
We backed in our 5th wheel next to a few motor homes that pulled straight in .

Thanks. That is odd. Never heard of non-awning sites. I'm glad I asked. Thanks again.

Do you suggest the next row behind the water sites?

Last summer we stayed at Narrows Too in a site immediately opposite the waterfront sites. We had plenty of room for all our slides and awning. We also had a good view of the water. Really liked Narrows Too.

The last sites to the left as you face the bay are tight, you have room for slides but not awnings if all sites are full.
The sites toward the right if facing the bay have more room. The next row up have a lot more room .

I spoke to them about this "rule" and they said it is okay. they just don't want people leaving dogs that bark and howl all day long when their owners are gone.!

Stayed at Narrows Too Twice and prefer it over Mt Desert Narrows. Both Mt Desert Narrows and Narrows Too, as well as Patton Pond west of Ellsworth Me., are Encore resorts. Thousand Trail Members normally get a 20% discount to stay at any Encore Resort (early summer and late Autumn, sometimes a 50% discount. There shouldn't be a membership sales pitch.

We ended up booking Smugglers Den Campground for our trip. It was a referral from a friend of a friend. I'll give a review after our trip in august. If I remember correctly we liked the bus schedule better to bar harbor than some of the other campground's we were looking at. Apparently parking can be difficult.

Smugglers Den

We are going to Smugglers Den in July for almost two weeks. Going with friends from Ohio who have stayed there for years in their TT and they really like it. This will be the first trip with full hook ups for the DH and I. It will be our second trip with the Mini Lite 2503S that we purchased in Dec. Lobsters beware I'm coming for you!!! Never can get enough of the soft shell ones when in Maine.

We are going to be leaving for home July 21. Taking our bicycles so we can explore more of the park (our friends advised this). If you have never done it one of the carriage rides is fun managed to get a booking when we were at Acadia two years ago (they book up fast missed out on two other trips). We have taken some really fun "tours" from various ports both on land and on the water on past trips.

Please share some of the special things you love about Bar Harbor. Going in June and have never been. Would like some ideas, Thanks ahead of time.

X2 on bringing bikes to Acadia. We have ridden(walked the bikes on some,we're getting old) on most of the carriage roads and it is a terrific way of taking in Acadia. The free buses on the island have bike racks front and back so getting around is easy. Dont forget Schoodic take the ferry from Bar Harbor to Winter Harbor and ride or take the bus to the one way drive around Schoodic point

My absolute favorite thing to do in Acadia is hike the Precipice Trail. It's strenuous and tiresome but it sure is fun.

Bar Harbor things to do that are free
Walk the shore path 1/2 mile with sign posts along the way
Walk to Bar Island at low tide be careful to watch the tides and wear shoes with good tread it can be slippery
Things to pay for (check for combo tickets as it was cheaper that way)
Oli's Trolley narrated ride around the area
Lighthouse and National Park tour (seals and eagles in addition to lighthouses and park history clean narrated boat ride)
Shopping for anything and everything from tourist tchotchke to high end items if that is your thing
Go out route 3 to Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf fun spot but take bug spray one year the staff were at one hole with bug spray for anyone who wanted it because of a mosquito hatch!!!
Restaurant just walk around most have a menu outside something for every budget
Outside of Bar Harbor
Northeast Harbor for the Asticou Azalea Garden and the Thuya Garden can take an island explorer bus there
Scenic Nature Cruise out of Northeast Harbor with a park guide is a good trip
Did a guided kayak tour of Somes Sound double kayaks no solos (can't find the company name)
Southwest Harbor for Beal's Lobster Pier is good outdoor lobster place we eat there at least twice every trip
Off island the Schoodic Senic By way is well worth the hour drive (have never done the ferry) the quiet side of Acadia is great!
Ice cream anyplace is a good bet (no I haven't tried the lobster one that is offered some places)
Above all relax have fun!!
Do Not build any cairns in the park that is a big problem.
Hope this helps it covers what the hubby and I like to do.

Bar Harbor is very pet friendly if you don't want to leave your fur babies in the camper. Check out the Bark Harbor website for more information. Home - Bark Harbor
