Alternative to Fort Wilderness
Finally going to take the plunge and driving our MH to the Orlando area (from New Jersey) and storing it near the airport for a lot of quick Florida Disney trips over the winter. However, it appears that Fort Wilderness may be all booked up for my anticipated trips. Any awesome alternatives near Disney parks you can recommend? I have been looking online and it seems that a lot of the parks are quite crowded. Hoping for some place quiet to come back to at the end of a long disney day....any suggestions?

If you're a Thousand Trails member, the Orlando park fits the bill- nice and quiet.

Not a Thousand Trails member...unfortunately don't get to camp enough yet to justify that expense. Too bad though because this place looks awesome

I like your idea of driving down before the weather gets bad. I am in New York. What type of storage facilities have you found near the airport.

I found a place called Park Bark and Fly. I called about it some time ago and was told for my 29' MH it would be approximately 60$ per month. I have to verify the details still, however. They even have a shuttle to pick you up and drop you off at the Orlando Airport which I think is only about 5 miles away. My daughter goes to Flagler College in St Augustine so I figure I will use it a lot over the winter and then drive it home beginning of May when she is done school for the summer. Thinking I won't have to winterize down there, but will need to check that out too.

Have you check KOA Orlando? You could also check Goodsam site for CG in Orlando area.

I live in Florida, this is a nice quiet park in Lakeland which is about 30 minutes from Disney. I highly recommend it. It is also close to Tampa area too.

Fort Wilderness is in Kissimmee, Fl. Try the KOA in Kissimmee/Orlando. Also look in Claremont and Winter Garden for RV sites. Try to book Ft. Wilderness in the middle of the week, also try two weeks back, three weeks ahead, you can always cancel. Tell them you want to reserve several time slots so they work with you. Remember you are trying to book during the busiest time of the year. Try different grades of camp sites, they have good, better, best (premium) sites.
You should not have to winterize in Orlando.

There are no "quick Disney trips" if you're planning on using a motorhome in this area. Why not just stay in a hotel? It's basically the same thing, isn't it?

first, if you send me a PM I will give you the phone number of my friend who can probably get your dates at the Fort. second check out the storage facility carefully, there is much crime in that area and of course the facility owner is not responsible for damage. I use a secure facility in Winter Garden which is where I live, and is about 16 miles from Disney and runs 70.00 per month.

If I used that logic I would never use the MH at all . And I have had difficulty finding the time to use it. So it is better to have some fun with it instead of it just sitting in my driveway

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I will surely save them for future reference...Bob suggested I try and book a week at the Fort instead of 3-4 nights and see if I could get in...voila it worked! I am IN! Thanks Bob for the great suggestion . Now I just have to remember to call up and modify my reservation for the nights I actually want!
