Any recommendations on camping in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country?

We are planning a trip to Pennsylvania early summer and would like to spend time in the Dutch Country and do some sight seeing and possibly take a day trip to DC. Does anyone have recommendations on favorite campgrounds or campgrounds to stay away from?

Mike -

We camped last year at Old Mill Stream Campground and are going again this year. It's in Lancaster County adjacent to Dutch Wonderland (children's amusement park). It was nice - clean & well maintained. Lots of families with young children because of Dutch Wonderland. An Amish couple comes through in the mornings with their horse and cart selling baked items and canned goods. Very yummy!

Old Mill Stream Campground

Lancaster County is about 2.5 hours from DC. We live in Manassas, VA (not far from DC) so please let me know if you want information about places to camp around here or tourist info for DC.

And if you camp at Old Mill Stream, Hershey Park is not too far away, we camp 6 miles from Hershey Park.

I was born and raised in Pa.......It's almost all Dutch (Amish) Country now a days. I'm from north of Pittsburgh. Check out Cooks Forrest State Park, it's in the Allegheny Mountains in the western part of the state. Lots and lots of campgrounds. The Clarion River runs through the park and they have lots to do.

One place that we are thinking of staying at on our trip Forida to NY is Caledonia State Park. If I remember correctly from the SP map, it is considered in the Dutch region.

If anyone has stayed at that state park, let me know how it is. I was just going by the state park web site, and daily travel distance for stopping, but we usually prefer state parks.

We've stayed quite a few places in and around Lancaster and Hershey. For the kids we go to The Quarryville, PA Jellystone....lots to do.

When we want quiet we go to Mill Bridge Campground in Paradise, PA, just east of Lancaster. Think it's on Ronks Rd.? It's right next to a small creek and Amish Farm. Amish women pull a cart through the camground every few evenings selling some awesome baked goods. Some decent fishing at times in the creek.

Almost forgot to mention. If you like flea and farmers markets? Be sure to check out the green Dragon Farmers and auction market in Ephrata, PA. About 30 min from Landcaster.

We are here! We are staying our first three nights at Ronks (or Paradise) in Mill Bridge Village Campground. It is okay, but I've stayed in better. We will be spending from Tuesday night through the weekend at Drummer Boy Campground in Gettysburg. Love it here, but dreading the 16 hour drive home.
