Don't even think of Taps! It was for sale last year and could be upgraded nicely for SMALLER campers.

We've stayed at Bear Creek twice, and it was a great experience both times.

We've stayed at the KOA West, mainly due it's location near relatives that live in Candler. It's a nice park with a friendly staff and room for big rigs. The only down side is I-40 is right by it and you hear the traffic noise continuously. It usually takes me nearly 24 hours till I don't notice it as bad, until a semi with straight stacks runs down the interstate...but sitting by the campfire and talking is always a good time and makes it all worth it.

Whatever you do, make sure you take some time to enjoy the local Carolina BBQ offerings. Stop in at Phi's BBQ Pit just outside Asheville for the best Carolina Ribs and Brisket. Fantastic. It's a place that looks like an old barn, but the food is great, and the smokers go 24/7!! Inside, you will see that there isn't a single square inch of space on the walls or ceiling where you might want to staple your favorite sports team hat!!

Also, don't miss the chance to tour the Biltmore Resort. Well worth the trip and expense.

Watch out for the stink bug invasion. Stayed at bear Campgroung and took two years to get rid of them. Mama gerdies is a pretty place but on the side of a mountain so the lower spots will test your and your RV's skills.

Thanks everybody for your feedback. We booked two weeks for summer 2017 at Bear Creek and looking forward to the trip. We will for sure go to Phil's as more than one post brought it up.

In 2014 we had a rally at Ashville East KOA which is actually in Swannanoa and they were able to accomadate rigs as large as 42 feet without any problem.
It is pretty well located to get to Biltmore, Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountian and Chimmney Rock.
