Asheville, NC campground recommendations

Looking for recommendations on campgrounds around Asheville, NC. We will have two (36 and 40 foot) 5th wheels. We also will need a cabin for another couple. We are all retired so will not need activities for kids.

Our plans are for a 2 week trip in June or July

When are you looking to go? Lots of smoke down there from wildfires right now. See is thread for more info on NC wildfire.

As for a campground, check out Asheville KOA east and Mama Gerties Campground.

The KOA at Asheville is pretty good. And ditto on smoke. Have friends parents live up there. They have left because of smoke from fires.

KOA East is a very pretty location. BE AWARE that there is a VERY BUSY RR grade crossing right across the road. You can expect air horns most of the night every 20-30 minutes. Try to get a site as far to the rear of the campground as possible.

We stayed at Mama Gerties this summer. Great place. No pool and no activities for kids but makes for a great place for relaxing. Entrance road is steep but manageable. The very upper level sites have great views and a little more room but more expensive. We would go back in a heart beat. We drove through the KOA while there and thought it would be OK too if you got the right site. You would have to be able to choose on arrival though as I would know of no way to describe in advance. Be sure to find Phil's BBQ. Good stuff!

We also loved Mama Gerties. We stayed in the lower area, but walked up the hill for the view!
If they don't have spaces, we also liked Campfire Lodgings in Asheville. A higher rate if you have the direct view of the valley, but the regular sites are great too. They have yurts rather than cabins.

Another vote for Mama Gerties. We stayed there in August. Great place and very helpful staff. Just East a few miles from Asheville.

We stayed at Asheville’s Bear Creek RV Park & Campground in July and loved it. we were on the top tier of the park, with nothing blocking the mountain view from the back

Another vote for Campfire Lodgings; their premium sites have the best views imaginable. Plus yurts and cabins.

2x that for Bear Creek. We were there a year ago and really liked their location. That upper tier on the outside is beautiful. We liked sitting behind our trailer and just watching the sun set. And this location is great for going sightseeing. We got a deal on the Biltmore tickets from the campground too. Enjoy! Great area to visit.
