Association Island

We (Me, Wife and 2 kids) are making plans to stay between 7-10 days at Association Island KOA on Lake Ontario, 1000 Island Region, NY.

Looking to see I f anyone has recently been there and any pointers you'd like to share.

Thank You.

If you are looking to tour around while you are there I would suggest Wellsley Island State Park down river near Alexandria Bay. From there you can go in both directions to see the sights, Eisenhower Power dam is a great stop on a rain day or for that matter any day. Alex bay has tour boats which is a great way to see the area from the river. If you check a NY map you will see other state parks along the river but Wellsley in my opinion would be the best with the kids, lots to do.

We have not been there since it became a KOA. nice sites and well kept but a little pricy. Off season was about $50 or $55 a night and most of the amenities were not available. We usually stay further south at Brennan Beach but that is not convenient for sight seeing. Welsley Island is a very good option. I think D loop has full hook ups. Centrally located and well kept. I would also suggest a tour boat ride that goes to Bolt Castle and by many of the islands. Bolt Castle is amazing. About an hour or so away, you can visit the seaway locks and the casino in Massina.

I realize I've probably missed your trip but thought I'd post anyhow. We've stayed at the Association Island KOA a few times including as recently as last weekend which was in fact their closing weekend for the year. We've made them our Thanksgiving weekend choice for the last couple of years. The premium sites are a little pricey at $75 during peak season but off season our premium site was $45. It's a beautiful location and a bit secluded which has pros & cons. Most notable con is it's approx. 30 minutes to decent shopping in Watertown. We usually shop on the way home since we pass by Watertown rather than give up camping time. We prefer the campsites on the West end of the island because of the spectacular sunsets but it can get windy as opposed to the East end.
