Attention Nerds (rocket launch at Wallops)

NASA is going launch a moon atmosphere probe from Wallops Flight Facility in VA, 11:27 p.m. EDT, on Friday Sept. 6. A pretty good region of the eastern seaboard will be able to view this night launch and it is a Friday night so keeping the kids up will be OK, at least for those with the littler ones.

I know it won't be quite as impressive as a shuttle launch, but this should be pretty cool to watch.

More info:

Now I need to figure out where to put the trailer for a good view!

Nice. I need to find where this is and see how far from us it is... I've got a buddy and his daughter who would be interested, too!

Wallops island is just south of Pocomoc city on the eastern shore. You pass through going to chincoteague and the south end of assateague

Take a left turn at the stoplight at the Pizza Hut between New Church and Oak Hall. (My home town!) After all these years, it's great to see this area on the radar again!

Ive seen both rocket and shuttle launches from here in the Philly suburbs. The rocket from Wallops was much more impressive. You could see the multi-stage rocket separations. Definitely try to see it.

Man, you guys are lucky. I'd love to see that but West Texas is probably a little far.

Chincoteague is one of my favorite places. I have driven by Wallops at least 20 times but never went when a launch was scheduled. That would be really cool to see.

Whats a good way to find out about launches in advance? At Wallops or CC or anywhere.

I get FaceBook updates from Wallops. The NASA site has a schedule as well.
