We stayed at a KOA on the water. It was $$$ ($100) but sitting on the edge of the shore was really great.

We stayed at Smuggler's Den in Southwest Harbor. Nice campground that has shuttle bus that passes through that goes to surrounding areas. They even sell lobster at the store and will show you how to cook it.

Bar Harbor CG... spent just over a week there this past August. Was perfect for our visit! Great laundry, clean pool, awesome views and oh the blueberries... most delicious blueberries growing all over the CG.

We stayed at Blackwoods campground, nice and quiet. Seawall campground is also nice. These campgrounds do not have hookups. Generators are allowed in the morning and afternoons for a couple of hours.

Be Careful at KOA Ocean Side

We stayed at the Bar Harbor KOA Ocean Side this past summer. It is way over priced. Granted we were there during the peak season, there were probably less than 20 sites on the Harbor. Most of the sites were in the middle of a field. We picked a site that was not on the water, but advertised views. It was not at all as described. We got stuck back in a corner that was entirely too small for our rig, took a lot of back and forth to get in, and had ZERO view of the water. When we requested another site we were told there were no other sites that fit our time period. (NOT TRUE!) Thankfully the site in front of us was empty the morning we left or we would have had to ask them to move so we could pull out. To make matters worse our neighbor left their dog in their RV ALL DAY and it BARKED non-stop!

I REALLY wanted to stay at Bar Harbor CC (a previous poster mentioned) but they don't take reservations and coming from KY that was a deal breaker for us. Next time I will take my chances with them. Much better price, too!

Despite the crummy accommodations Maine and Acadia were beautiful! We spent the majority of our time in the park, and less than an afternoon in Bar Harbor, so we were happy.

Good luck with your trip!

Another for having stayed at KOA Oceanside, as others have metioned it was pricey; however having a spot right on the bay was amazing. Great sunsets! Kids loved being able to go out in low tide and look for sea shells.

We stayed at Narrows Two in June and really enjoyed the stay. Didn't spend a lot of time at campground because we were sight seeing. It is a passport America campground.

What time of year is the campgrounds open in Bar Harbor? DW retires on February 29 and we start to travel. Go south first, would there be any good campgrounds open in April or early May? We plan to start heading to Alaska in mid May from North Carolina
