Best campground

I am looking for a good campground that is half way between Ohio and Myrtle Beach. Planning a trip in the near future and word of mouth is always better than internet search.

Don't know exactly where in Ohio you are or what time of year... but I suggest a great overnight campground is Mayberry Campground at I77 & I74 in Mt Airy NC. No shade but they have alot of large sites. Right off I74 not far from I77 Clean & very friendly owners. Andy Griffiths Hometown & basis for Mayberry.... Pilot Mountain (Mt Pilot) just down the road....... (ChecK their web site) Mt Airy is just over the Virginia / North Carolina border. There is also a plain camground in Ft Chiswell VA I77 & I81 intersection We have not stayed there but it is easy off the interstate.

Tremont Outdoor Resort in Townsend, Tennessee (the peaceful side of the Smokies). Beautiful, well maintained campground has sites that back up to the Little River. Riverside sites have covered decks. River is stocked with trout, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance is literally an eighth of a mile from the campground. Staff is nice, bathrooms are kept clean, has a swimming pool, laundry room, game room, cable TV, wi-fi included, 50 amp or 30 amp electric, water, and sewer. Only downfall is weak cell phone signal in the area. (That can be a good thing!)

I also recommend www.campgroundreviews.com. I've found most of the reviews on there to be very helpful. I planned a two week trip from my home in west Tennessee to the Pennsylvania Amish country from the reviews I read on RV Park Reviews and it turned out to be a great trip.

Wife and I stayed at the Ft. Chiswell RV Park I-77 & I-81 in October on our way to and from Myrtle Beach Beach. We were coming from our home in Ohio. Nice campground for overnight stay clean showers full hookups and reasonable rates.

I think that is Asheville, not Ashland.

Agree with this. We stayed an overnight at Ft. Chiswell last summer and it was a very nice little park. Friendly managers and super clean bath house. Easy on and off the interstate.
