Question Best NC family/action packed campgrounds?

I really need ya'lls help on this one. We live in CT and want to spend our summer camping in NC. While born and raised in NC, I've never camped there. Any suggestions on campgrounds there, preferably within a 1 hour drive of Charlotte (across the line in SC is OK, too)? I already tried the Jellystone/Yogi Bear park in Marion. They don't have any availability for 2 weeks +, that will fit our 38 ft. TT.

Our youngest 3 kids camp with us (14, 11, 7). Our 7 year-old son has high functioning Autism and we choose our campgrounds based on what he would like the best. It just makes camping life easier for all of us. It needs to be a destination campground with tons of stuff to do for kids.

Preston's list of must haves:
Great playground
Pool
Wifi
Planned activity schedule

Preston's list of wants:
mini golf
splash pad/zone or waterslide

Thank you in advance for your help. It is greatly appreciated!

I wanted to add that if it isn't near Charlotte that is OK, too. If that campground meets Preston's standards, then it will work for us! LOL

3 hours away from Charlotte is the Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, at Daddy Joe's. If you look at it's website, it has EVERYTHING for kids. http://www.taborcityjellystone.com/

We have never stayed at that one, but have stayed at Jellystones in TN, Va and in PA. They were great!! Sorry I couldn't get you closer to Charlotte, but if you google Charlotte campgrounds, you may find something that will fit your needs.

Not near charlotte but hits your needs list is daddy Joe's in Tabor City. Charlotte area is a bit of a dry area. crosswinds is closer to Charlotte and has a great play area, a small pool and large sites. look here for some other ideas near Charlotte given to me previously. If you want the shore, check out camp hatteras. I hear dan Nicholas park can be good. We stayed at fort mill koa. I would not call it a destination campground, more of an over night place.

The kids museum in Charlotte is great. The Lazy 5 ranch is a lot of fun. It is a horse drawn safari that you can feed the animals. Have fun!

Thumbs up

Thank you for the responses. I really really appreciate it.

I have literally spent the entire afternoon on the internet looking at campgrounds. I am so excited about being "home" in NC!

Kings Mt State Park in SC just across the line below Charlotte is a Nice place, Only have a small playground, but gives you close access to Charlotte and great history area.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park/ PirateLand, Myrtle Beach

Even though both of these campgrounds are in SC, Myrtle Beach is very close fairly close to Charlotte and easily can accommodate your TT. we've going to the Travel Park for years now and every year is a blast. You will have the choice of beach on one side and pools on the other in a secured environment for kids and grown ups. Other Campgrounds are Onslow Beach in Camp Lejeune (Jacksonville NC)if you like peace, quiet and relaxation; also Emerald Island, NC has a very good one as well.
Happy Camping!

Dan Nicholas is a great place

Pond with boats to rent
Small sprinkler park
Petting zoo if I recall
Great hiking

Look it up, we go as often as we can!

Zooland Family Campground

This is a favorite for us. I have a 12 y/o w/ HF Autism and a 9 y/o w/ ADHD.
It has most of Preston's must haves. Seasonal activity schedule. They do a cool Halloween theme.
But it does have mini-golf.

1½ hours to Charlotte. 49 to 85.

If you have AAA it's like $25/night 30amp-full hook-up.
