Best route to Bar Harbor from Four Mile Creek Campground

I am planning on staying off the toll roads. I plan to leave here on Friday and I was planning on going 18 to 98 to US 20 to I-95 to US 1.

I probably wasn't to clear, I was going to take I-95 around Boston just to US 1 to Bar Harbor. I am coming across New York on US 20

One of our Niagara County treasures. I live nearby and have spent many nights there.

Can't speak to Rte 20 in NY but in Massachusetts it's a local truck route. I'd take 395N to 290 to 495. I like 125N to 202/4 to just south of Portland avoiding NH/Maine tolls then 295 to exit 31?(its the Rte 196 exit) bypassing Brunswick to Coastal 1. Bypass Rockland with Rte 90. Enjoy Acadia

NY Rt. 20 is ok until you get east of I-81, after than it's all hills, and I mean hills.. If traffic isn't an issue, take Rt. 104 across, I can't help you out after 104 hits I-81.
Another highway to avoid like the plague is NYS Rt. 20a

Route104 has a lot of curves and speed limits through different areas. The road has a nice shoulder, but you will find it slow traveling if time is an issue.

Left this morning and was going to take US 20 again and soon Garmin was trying to get me off US 20 but not me. All of a sudden I come up on a 12 ft 1in bridge and the Garmin sent me around it and I was on the back roads and I saw a sign that said 10ft 1in bridge ahead. I told DW that Garmin would get us around that bridge and rounded a curve and there was that 10ft bridge, DW was about to have a heart attack. I said no problem there was a place right there that I could turn around on, well back up and turn around. DW said take the toll road. It's all fun

trip to Bar harbor

We often visit Boston and you may find taking Route 5 more to your liking taking 690 and 481 through Syracuse It runs 4 lane divided highway to North of Albany to 890 then to 7 and either north to rt 9 or rt 2,either is very scenic with several parks and campgrounds and No low bridges
just a thought Enjoy

When in Bar Harbor make sure you stop by the Thirsty Whale great sea food and locally owned. If you are into local beer, wine and good BBQ stop by the Atlantic Brewing Co..
There are some great public gardens on the island to visit as well:Thuya Garden, Asticou Azalea Garden, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden, Wild Gardens of Acadia located in the Acadia National Park.
If you need some quite time away for the summer people visit the western part of the island Somesville, Southwest Harbor, Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
One of our favorite boat tours is out of Northeast Harbor VIP Somes Sound Fjord & Harbors Tour
Hope this helps.

Before we moved we lived not to far from MDI great place to hang out.

Enjoy your time on MDI...you'll love it

Happy Trails

We already went in 16 but we want to go again this fall. We had a good time. Next time we want to visit Bar Harbor with out the truck, take a bus. We plan on staying a little longer. We plan to check out the places you named off.

Thanks
Jimmy
