Big Lagoon State Park, Pensacola, FL

We are looking at spending a few nights at this state park shortly after Labor Day. DH has some work in the area and I will be tagging along with Snoopy. Anyone ever stayed there? What are your thoughts?

Nice quite park. Lots of sand. Clean bathrooms. We stay there about once a year.

We've stayed there a couple of times, and as ddrockwood said. it's a nice park with lots of sand. There are some nice trails and even some boardwalk if you like walking and exploring.

I'm planning a trip next summer to Pensacola. I need to go find this park on the map now.
Any other campgrounds near Pensacola and on the beach would be nice to know. I don't really need an rv resort but we will be staying for at least a week so full hook ups would be good.

We just returned from Big Lagoon State Park. We will not be going back. Sites are very small. Not much shade at all. And the campsites are not within any close proximity to beach, pier or anything. We did some hiking, which we generally love. Lots of sand flies on the sandy trails.

The experience was not awful, just not good for us. We usually love state parks. Even if there isn't much very close, if we can sit at our site and see nature, it is ok. But the sites did not allow for viewing much. They are tight with undergrowth between, so you cannot see anything. Fairly private.

Big Lagoon State Park

We stayed at Big Lagoon back in April and loved the place. Situated in a bayou, the water and wildlife were close by. The beach was just a short jaunt by car. There is a wildness to Big Lagoon that is great.

Electra Glide, one of our favorite parks in the area is Fort Pickens, a barrier island on the Gulf coast, across the bay from Pensacola. Don't know how much damage the recent hurricane did, if any, but it's a real nice park. It's a federal facility so, if you are golden agers, you stay there for 1/2 price.

The Hurricane did zero damage that far west. We stayed at NAS Pensacola directly across the bay the day after the storm made landfall.

Long ways from golden age but I might look into Pickens as well. I would like to be right on the beach and not have to drive anywhere once I get there.

We usually stay here a couple times during the year. We like the privacy between the sites. Like others have said a lot of sand but the trails are nice and it only about 40 miles from us.
