Birmingham Alabama Campground?

Will be traveling from Michigan to Florida in January and plan to spend a couple nights near Birmingham, Alabama to de-winterize, relax, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions for a campground close to I-65 that has full hookups and can easily accommodate a 33' fifth wheel? I see quite a few in campground books, but would like some comments from those who have actually been to one. Thanks

We have stayed several times at Birmingham South Campground to visit grand kids. Wifi is slow, cable TV is limited but overall enjoyed the campground. Everyone was friendly. We have a 36' Class A and no problems getting in or out. Not everything is paved and stayed once when it rained the entire time and that was a little messy. If we were going to stay more than overnight this would be the place we would stay. Probably less than a mile off of I-65. Stayed at the state park, checked out Hoover RV Park and another in the area and Birmingham South was by far the best. Enjoy!

Are you planning on going to Birmingham or is that the route you take? Just wondering because 65 is out of the way.

We're just passing thru. We're going to Apalachicola, Fl in the panhandle. 65 to 231 in Montgomery, AL. Follow 231 to Panama City then about 60 miles east to our destination.

OK 231 Thru Dothan and down to PC. When you leave PC take Hwy 30 to Perry fl to Us 19 south. It is a easy backroad drive

That's way east of our destination, Apalachicola. We plan to take 98. It's 58 miles from PC to Apalachicola.

For a one night stop over, Birmingham South is an easy on and off I-65 and close to places to eat. Ask for the 50 AMP sites 51 to 55, they seem to be a little more level but with Good Sam discount and tax added you will spend $42.00. Further south 35 miles at Clanton, AL, the Dandy KOA is next to the interstate and is a little less expensive, great for an overnight stop.
