I switched to this route several years ago. Much easier than 77 thru the mountains. Part of 17 is slow due to construction right now so I used 64 this fall. A few miles longer but no delays. In my opinion 81 from Pa on south is now extremely heavy with big trucks. Too many huge distribution centers on 81. I was surprised to see traffic on 95 south of Richmond is lighter than 81. I used to avoid any part of 95 but now i prefer it in the south.

Update, so far we've done the I 90 to 84 to 684 to 287 to 78 to 81. Two great travel days. Spending a few days in NC then on to Daytona and the warm weather. New TT towed well. Spent first two nights in hotels, tomorrow will finally be camping.

We came down 2 weeks ago and cut across on 64 to Richmond, great ride. Don't forget to stop in Port Wentworth for gas @ pilot. Was the cheapest on east coast.

Just to conclude this thread. We completed trip south on January 24th. Route 77 to 26 to 95. No problems. We came back north on 3/1-3/3. Came 95 all the way. Used the Key bridge around Baltimore. The road was fine all the way.
