Bridge/Tunnel Advice
We will be in the Washington DC, Delaware, NJ and Maryland area in May and would like some advice on Bridge and Tunnels to use or avoid. The other question is about LP, I run the frig while moving, is this a problem in tunnels? Thanks

Just have to,have the propane off going through the tunnels other then Baltimore. No propane in their tunnels!

I can’t answer which tunnels up there to avoid, but I can answer the propane question.
All the tunnels in the Hampton Roads region (four of them) all require RVs and camper trailers to stop for inspection to confirm that the propane is off. I stop beyond the tube and turn it back on.

Don't recall ever seeing anything on bridges, but yes as many will tell you tunnels are a different story and require propane to be shut off.

Get yourself a RV GPS and program in the trailer parameters, for the most part this will keep you safe.
I have one and my GPS has never steered me wrong when pulling my trailer. Others have claimed to have issues so, I can't say for sure. I have owned the same brand, 2 different models, for 8 years and I have never had an issue with either unit I owned.
I have pulled out east and out west using my GPS and I have been extremely happy with the results. My trailer is 13'-6" tall and carries two 30-LB propane bottles, I have been warned on bridge height several times. Especially when I forget to switch between RV mode and car mode when not towing.

And stay out of the express lanes around the DC beltway, they are restricted to two axle vehicles and buses only. (They are toll roads too).

I have a Rand McNally RV GPS 7730 model with life time maps. The GPS map data base is updated for free with life time maps. My unit is at least four years old.

I have same model and often have to ignore its directions to keep from ending up on city streets or other routes . It will eventually recalculate. One time going north on I95 it took me off and past the navel yard.

NJ requires propane to be shut off while driving throughout the entire state. Not sure about the other states. You'll have to take 695 around the tunnels in the DC area - no propane tanks allowed.
Check your locations for gas, there's not a lot of large gas stations in that area so find a spot prior to DC or it can be a while (unless you're comfortable with small gas stations).
